Before I get started here, I want to be sure to explain that we are not supporting the irresponsible and untrained practices of the occult, nor do we recommend calling on the dead. But for those who feel the need to continue pushing their luck, we’ve compiled a list of ways you can say hello to a long-lost loved one or have a ghost story night with friends. There are a few that are pretty well known, and others – well, let’s just say we may have watched a few too many episodes of Charmed back in the day. According to ScoopWhoop.com, here are some of the top ways to talk to the spirits – if you really wanted to try.
Talking to the Spirits. Whether we believe in the supernatural or not, most of us have let our curiosity lead us to a night of ghostly tracking or spirit conjuring at least once in our lives. Even if it’s just participating in a local urban legend, we’ve likely tried it. If you’re interested in trying more, here are the top ways (according to the web) to do some spirit talking.
Using a Ouija Board. I’m pretty sure just about everyone on the planet has heard of this one, so it’s a no-brainer that it would land in the top spot. The board is used by allegedly allowing the spirits to communicate through you by spelling out answers to your questions on the board.
The Planchette. This one really goes hand-in-hand with the Ouija board, but since it can be used on its own, we’ve included it separately. There are several variations of the object, but basically, the “eye” of the piece is used to communicate answers to your questions.
Mystical Crystal Ball. According to ScoopWhoop.com, “Using a crystal ball, a human medium is expected to be able to see the spirit and hear its voice, passing the words on to the evoker. Usually, the medium speaks for the spirit.” In other cases, it is said the medium can see visions within the glass ball.
Summoning a Witch with a Mirror. Practicing witchcraft has long been connected to the spiritual world, so it would only make sense that contacting a witch IN the spirit world could be a viable option. There are several different options for attempting this method that includes using wax, mirrors, candles, knives, and salt. Oh, and blood. Not so fun.
Speaking Through Candlelight. This method uses the flame of a candle to answer yes and no questions. To do so, there is a specific ritual to follow, but ultimately you wind up asking a question and watch to see if the flame leans to the “yes” or to the “no” you had scrawled on the table.
Casting a Spell. For this, ScoopWhoop states you concentrate on the person you wish to speak to, then say a chant out loud. “Spirit shows yourself, spirit reveals, spirit come to me so I know you are real,” the article says you should repeat this several times until you begin to hear the spirits talking.
Summoning Succubuses and Incubuses. I’m not really sure why you’d want to summon a succubus (female sexual demon) or incubus (male sexual demon), but according to the article, you can. It involves pricking your finger for a drop of blood and repeating a chant several times.
Summoning an Angel. At least this one makes sense as to why you might want to perform it. ScoopWhoop.com says, “Light a candle at midnight and say, ‘Oh heavenly creatures of the light, I call you to come to this place now. So mote it be,’” is the chant for calling on a little help from the angels.
The Bloody Mary Legend. This would be one of those legends I spoke of in the beginning of the article that I think a lot of people likely tried at a slumber party or two growing up. It basically involves some candles, some chanting, turning on some water and standing in front of the bathroom mirror. The rest tends to differ depending on where you’re from and what version you’ve heard.
Fairy Spells. This isn’t exactly “speaking to the spirits” so to speak, but since fairies are considered to be spiritual and supernatural bodies that can aid in things around the home, we’re including it. To do this, we’re told you should lay tiny “fairy footprints” around your yard and say a specific chant to call them to your home.
Days of Spirits. In case one day isn’t enough, there’s apparently a spell you can cast in order to see and talk to spirits for 3 full days. It involves using 5 green candles, some rose petals and some blood in a certain ritual before saying a chant and finally putting out the flames with lemon juice.
Calling All Vapor Monsters. ScoopWhoop.com says, “go outside at midnight on a full moon night and focus on what monster you want to summon, though it all depends on your surroundings. Let the moon reflect off you and say the chant 10 times.”
To Call a Lost Sister. Any Charmed fans out there? I’d love to say this is an original “spell” if I didn’t know it came directly from the television show. “Power of the sisters rise, Course unseen across the skies, come to us who call you near, come to us and settle here, blood to blood, I summon thee, blood to blood, return to me,” it says.
Calling on the Family Witches. Another one ripped from the “Halliwell Line” of witchcraft, but still relevant is the call to family witches. According to ScoopWhoop, the ritual and chant for this option will reveal to you anyone in your family line who had magical abilities.
